Hello from my couch by the heater! It’s funny how the seasons can seem to change so suddenly. Only a month ago, I was writing this newsletter outside and enjoying a warm breeze. Ahh well, the Autumn colour around the hills at the moment is truly irresistible. I’m looking forward to my Autumn leaf and flower painting classes this Friday at Between the Vines and Saturday at The Cedars.
VLOG
A wild windy chat - braving the morning chill with a coffee in hand! Sharing some nature journal pages and joy in the simple things. 😊
What I’m Listening To
With cosy inside days this month, I’ve really been getting into the nostalgic music! Lots of Disney tunes and 90s kids TV theme songs. I actually cried whilst listening to the Ning Nang Nong from Play School the other day! 😅
Art Classes
Our last Wine and Watercolour session at Between the Vines is happening this Friday afternoon. Join me with a glass of wine, scrumptious cheese platter and a paintbrush as we paint autumn leaves. This is a really relaxing class and happily beginner friendly (easy subject matter). Book here.
If you can’t make it on Friday, why not come along to my Saturday wine and watercolour class at The Cedars? We will be painting Autumn leaves here too, along with the gorgeous seasonal flowers of Hans Heysen’s garden.
Say tea is your preferred drink alongside painting, why not come along to my ‘Birds of the Cedars’ class at The Cedars the following Sunday (May 12)? I’ve created an easy ‘Step-by-Step’ drawing sheet so we can happily paint Rainbow Lorikeets together!
Homeschool art classes start next week, book in now so you don’t miss out! 10-11am at The Summit Community Centre. Book in here.
New Sketchbooks
Don’t you just love the feeling of a brand new sketchbook? Well, do I have a treat for you? I’ve just had a bunch of lovely new books printed with some new seasonal bird designs. There’s one specifically designed for every season. The books are made in Australia and include lovely thick recycled paper pages (which take paint surprisingly well). I’ve already started drawing/writing in my Spotted Pardalote sketchbook and love how light it is! 👌 As a little treat for being a newsletter subscriber, I’d love it if you’d like to take 20% my notebooks with code WHIMSY.
Nature Journaling
Speaking of sketchbooks, see here for a nature journaling recap for the month of April. 😊 I’ve even included some drawings created in my new sketchbook.
Blue Banded Bee
This month’s Aussie Animal blog post is on the Blue Banded Bee. Check it out here!
Hills Winter Lantern Festival
This month I’ve also been busy designing the poster for the Hills Winter Lantern Festival and running lantern making workshops with the team. This year, the event will be in Echunga. If you’re keen to get involved and make a lantern, why not book into some workshops and join the parade? 😊 Book into Saturday lantern making workshops here.
New Artworks and Freebie
I had a busy time this month painting a couple of special new pieces which are destined to be bauble designs for Banksia Red. I’m quite pleased with how cosy and comforting they are… watch this space!
Why not print out this black and white version of the hugging koalas (Mother’s Day is coming up) and find some time for some mindful colouring this month?
With love and a dose of whimsy,
Zinia
