Hello again lovely people and welcome to another ‘Dose of Whimsy’ instalment. In this monthly post I share all of my whimsical arty play and creative thoughts. 😊
Dear delightful human and welcome to the second edition of ‘A Dose of Whimsy’. Something pretty monumental has happened in my life since the last edition - I’ve had a baby! I write this today on her 3 week birthday.
The whole experience of birth and getting to know our daughter has been both incredibly wonderful and intense. We’ve been coping well with lots of laughs, dancing, music and art. Creativity is such a powerful tool for processing change.
Our days have suddenly become a lot slower and I’m appreciating the little moments so much more. Glistening raindrops on gum leaves, a dark sky about to burst or even just the feeling of the sun on my face are all magical moments connecting me to now. What small magical moments have you experienced this month?
A Dose of Whimsy Zine
I’ve just released another instalment of my Dose of Whimsy mini-magazine. This is a lovely little reflection piece and collectable item. I love the idea of people reading it and then sending it on to someone else in their life who might need to be reminded of the magic of life. You can purchase a copy here or upgrade your subscription to be a ‘Letterbox Legend’ and receive a copy in the mail next month. All paid subscribers can also read the digital version of the zine at the bottom of this post.
Nature and Life Journal
My journal has been my best friend this past month, someone to talk to at 3am while feeding my newborn and someone to listen as I offload my thoughts and feelings. These feelings have sometimes been expressed as drawings, I find that absentmindedly doodling is a wonderful way to catch a glimpse of my subconscious and process my feelings. I’ve also enjoyed printing and pasting in photos from my life in my journal this month which is a wonderful way to look back at memories without the screen.

Pregnancy Art
My changing body has been a point of fascination for me over these past 10 months. Drawing it has been a fun way of documenting the changes. Here are two self-portraits, one at 39 weeks and one at 40 weeks pregnant.

Subscribers will receive a PDF containing these artworks to print and pop on their walls. Thanks for reading my Monthly Dose of Whimsy publication. If it gave you a little smile or pop of inspiration, why not consider subscribing?
A Drawing a Day 2025
I have to admit, I didn’t take my diary to the hospital to keep up with my daily doodling habit. I did however fill in the blanks when I got home. It’s great to have such a manageable project in the wild newborn times. Just a couple of minutes for a little doodle and I feel like myself again! I highly recommend the habit, only give yourself a small area to draw so you don’t get overwhelmed.

It would be lovely if you would share my post to someone who you think might need a little dose of whimsy in their mailbox.
